The Difference Between All-Season Tires and Snow Tires - Les Schwab
Переглядів 1,1 тис.4 роки тому
People ask us all the time if all-season tires are just as good as snow tires in winter conditions. The answer is no. Here’s why. When it comes to grip, the deep, wide and aggressive tread on snow tires is designed for the snow and ice. All-season tires are designed for year-round driving. But snow tires are made with a special compound that stays flexible in temperatures below 40-degrees. This...

This is a good video to brush up on your knowledge and skill before winter comes. A 2 minute video won't fix everything, however, but it will identify what you need to consider before the snow flies. Be safe out there. ~ Brewsurfer

Faulty advice. Checking TP on a hot or even warm tire (which is what you'd be driving on if you stopped at any tire store to have them checked) will give misleading readings. These guys know that. This would be an opportunity to give them a chance to sell you something. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

While siping can have some benefit on icy roads, it's mainly a profit center for the tire shop in order to get about $50. out of you for 15 minutes worth of work. I'd probably do it only if I drive a lot on icy roads but otherwise, all tires sold in the USA already meet or exceed Department of Transportation safety and performance requirements, including high temperature standards.
